LOG LOADER DATA ACQUISITION APPLICATION

Designed and developed an intuitive touch screen application running in the cab of a log loader. The application initiates a wireless connection to logging trucks in range. Axle weights are displayed as the truck is being loaded and assists the operator to maximize the legal load weights. On load completion, a manifest with pertinent information is transmitted to the truck and is automatically uploaded to the logging company’s central server by the truck AVL system once back in cell phone range. This is all completed with no truck driver intervention. The application also manages the field library of maps, safety documents and, emergency procedures for the crews. A detailed study by FERIC of the pilot implementation determined significant cost savings would be achieved by users. The development qualified for a SR & ED tax refund for enhancements of mobile network technology.
